Fairshake backs 32 House candidates as crypto bill stalls

Crypto political group Fairshake named 32 House candidates it plans to support in November’s midterm elections, with $1 million in spending for each of six lawmakers, according to The Associated Press. The slate includes 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats who backed the industry’s market structure bill.

Who gets the $1 million in support?

Fairshake plans to spend $1 million each on Democratic Reps. Janelle Bynum of Oregon, Steven Horsford of Nevada and Derek Tran of California. Three Republicans will receive the same amount: House Financial Services Committee Chair French Hill of Arkansas, Bryan Steil of Wisconsin and Bill Huizenga of Michigan.

The group did not disclose how much it plans to spend on the other 26 candidates. Its wider slate includes senior lawmakers such as Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar and Republican Majority Whip Tom Emmer. Fairshake and its affiliated groups reported about $120 million in cash at the end of August, the AP reported.

Why is Fairshake spending after the bill stalled?

The House passed the CLARITY Act in July 2025. It would set federal rules for digital asset markets, a framework crypto firms say they need. But the Senate blocked it in September on a procedural vote after lawmakers failed to agree on ethics rules and other parts of the bill, according to Roll Call’s report on Fairshake’s spending.

Fairshake says it backs candidates who support crypto in both parties. Its spokesperson told the AP that the group and its allies had spent $40 million supporting 29 Democrats and $31 million supporting 28 Republicans in primaries and special elections this year. The group said it had won 53 of the 57 races it entered.

What could Fairshake spend next?

The group has not said whether it will put more money into House or Senate races before November. It has already pledged nearly $30 million to oppose Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown in Ohio, after Senate Democrats helped block the CLARITY Act. Brown is challenging Republican Sen. Jon Husted.

For you, the next signal is where Fairshake puts its remaining campaign money before the November elections. The group’s latest House slate names its targets, but leaves the total planned spending unclear.
